We are very pleased to announce that the British Cycling Yorkshire region has been awarded the Sunday Mirror Trophy for the Greatest Annual Percentage Increase in British Cycling Membership. Our actual regional membership grew by 1,815 from 6,041 to 7,856 in the 12 months to the end of September 2014. The Yorkshire region saw a 30% leap in members, a clear 5% ahead of Central, South and Eastern Regions.
2014 has been a very special year for Yorkshire. The long awaited Grand Depart witnessed something that our sport had never seen before. Hundreds of thousands lined the roads for the first two stages of the worlds most famous race. We saw fans of all ages cheer on riders from the worlds best teams from start to finish. This all made for something that we as a region and nation will never forget. Our dedicated team of regional staff and volunteers worked overtime to help support many events that made July a truly amazing month of cycling for Yorkshire. Our successful drive for new members is something we can all take great pride in and we are all very proud of receiving such a prestigious award. Our regional team of coaches, commissaires, judges, organisers, board members and development staff all deserve a special praise for the great increase in British Cycling membership regionally.
There have never been more opportunities to ride a bike, be it for fun or sport and British Cycling is at the heart of this growth. British Cycling works hard to represent cyclists’ interests at all levels, including campaigning on important issues including road safety. As a membership organisation, British Cycling provides a suite of benefits and support to its members, with all membership revenue invested back into cycling.
We would like to welcome all new members to our region and look forward to seeing you all out in the Yorkshire region in 2015.
The Sunday Mirror Trophy was awarded to our vice chairmen Ian Hirst and Marc Etches at the recent annual National Council meeting in Crewe.
