On Wednesday, July 8th 2015, annual circuit road race the Huddersfield Criterium will return to the West Yorkshire town. This year’s Criterium, starting at 6pm in Huddersfield Town Centre, is the second event of its kind in the town, with last year’s inaugural event being a tremendous success. This year promises to be even bigger and better with an increased 4 races throughout the evening.

Once again, the races will be held in the heart of town, with roads being closed so people can freely move around the circuit. The streets challenge riders’ skills, as they stream past at breathtaking speeds attempting to improve their position. The 2015 Criterium course sees a longer faster circuit over its predecessor in 2014, with the best viewing points for spectators likely to be in the Town’s St George’s square.

Some notable riders include recent winner of a stage in the prestigious Peace Race in Eastern Europe, local talent Gabriel Cullaigh, and the country’s leading Onepro cycling team and four times National Cyclo cross champion Ian Field.

The evening of cycling consists of four races, the first of which is the Enterprise Inns Circuit Championship for category 2, 3 and 4 riders. The curtain raiser to the evening, this event brings together up and coming local riders including a number of Youth entrants given special dispensation to ride with the senior category, with many former elite riders out to prove they still have what it takes.

This event will then be followed by the Youth race, giving young riders from many of the area’s leading cycling clubs the chance to showcase their talent on their own doorstop. There is a strong chance some future Olympians and Grand Tour riders could be on view.

This year’s Criterium also includes a women’s race for the first time ever. Women’s racing in Britain has never enjoyed a better time, come and see some of that talent in the first women’s event to be held in Huddersfield.

The evening of cycling concludes with the main event of the evening, The Elite race. This will feature some of the top local and national talent have come to Huddersfield who will be trying and claim the honours in this national A list event.
