Gain two-wheeled skills, boost confidence and meet like-minded women on Saturday 12 March with a traffic-free bike ride at Forge Valley Closed Circuit in Stannington, Sheffield, brought to you by British Cycling’s Breeze and Sheffield City Council.
The traffic-free route is comprised of a one kilometre tarmac circuit and women are welcome to do as few or as many laps as they like. It’s all about gaining confidence on a bike and having fun with like-minded people.
The free, women-only ride around the circuit aims to equip new or returning cyclists with the confidence and skills to hop on their bikes for fun. Run by British Cycling trained Breeze champions, women of all ages and abilities are being encouraged to take part. After the circuit session, there will be an opportunity to put their new found skills and confidence into action and take part in a short Breeze guided ride around the local area too.
Caroline Foreman, Breeze participant said:
‘It felt amazing after not being out on a bike for so many years… I really couldn’t believe what I’d been missing.’
Helen Webster, British Cycling’s Recreation Manager for Sheffield said:
‘This is a great opportunity for women who haven’t been cycling recently or want to improve their skills to get some advice and gain confidence cycling whilst initially in a traffic-free environment. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of women out on two wheels.’
Councillor Sioned-Mair Richards, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Sheffield City Council said:
‘I encourage women of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes for this event, where they can gain confidence, make new friends and kick start an active lifestyle in a safe and relaxed situation. Riding on the roads can be very daunting so for some the chance to ride in a traffic-free environment makes all the difference. I hope we’ll see plenty of women mounting their saddles and making the most of this opportunity to take up cycling in Sheffield.’
Got a bike but think it might not be up to scratch? Don’t worry! The guys at Dr Bike will be on hand to provide a free bike maintenance session from 11.00am in the Forge Valley car park.
