Welcome to British Cycling Yorkshire

British Cycling Yorkshire Region is an administrative arm of the National Governing Body for Cycle Sport in Great Britain. Its territory covers Yorkshire from a line drawn westwards from Whitby in the North down to areas covered by Sheffield postcodes in the South.

Yorkshire is home to many of Britain’s best riders with Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy, Olympic Silver Medallist Lizzie Armistead, 2009 UCI Downhill World Champion Steve Peat, Sky Pro rider Ben Swift, Team NetApp – Endura's Russell Downing, National Circuit Race Seires winner Graham Briggs and current National Circuit Race Champion Scott Thwaites are just some of our current crop of talent. Women’s racing is also up there with several young prospects including Jessie Walker who this year rode in UCI World Junior Road Race Championships. We are also proud of our Yorkshire Youth champions. Gabriel Cullaigh and Melissa Lowther are both 2012 National Youth A Circuit Race Champions.

The Yorkshire Region is one of 10 English Regions formed by British Cycling in 2001 when the then 26 Divisions were re-structured. Yorkshire was formed from the old West Yorkshire, the East Riding and a significant proportion of the North Midlands Divisions.

The Yorkshire Region currently has over 4,900 members from a figure of over 67,500 covering the other Regions, Scotland and Wales.

British Cycling’s Regions function as Event regulators and as developers of the sport. Yorkshire Region has a particularly strong focus on development, with a dedicated Event’s Group driving this forward. With a structured approach we aim to develop opportunities in accordance with British Cycling’s Equality Policy as well as catering for each discipline and ability grouping.

As we are home to many of Britain’s top riders in all disciplines of the sport we are also proud of the immense contribution made by our volunteers who are vital to keeping our wheels turning. Of course the wheels can always move faster with more effort and more volunteers will help us to achieve that, if you want to become a part of our cycling success then please contact our Secretary Keith Scott.

Please take a look at the news section as this is where all the latest developments within Yorkshire are published. If you would like your event covering or results posting, please contact us and we will help you. If you are searching for your nearest British Cycling club, please see the Club Finder section of this website.
